Measuring the level of fulfillment of judicial nursing duties of nurses: Developing a new scale

In this study, it was aimed to develop a new scale that measures the level of nurses fulfilling their forensic nursing duties over the nurses selected from university hospitals in Çorum and Yozgat. The pilot application was carried out on 107 nurses, and the study sample consists of 503 nurses. As a result of the analyses, Forensic Nursing Roles Scale of Nurses (NFNRS), which consists of 23 questions and 5 sub-dimensions, was obtained. Each of the 5 sub-dimensions obtained were named in accordance with the forensic nursing literature. SPSS and FACTOR programs were used in the analysis of the data. Content validity was tried to be ensured by starting from an item pool consisting of 130 items, and according to expert opinions and the result of repeated factor analyzes. To reveal the construct validity, explanatory factor analysis method based on polychoric correlation and curvilinear rotation was used. As a result of the analyzes made, it was determined that the data were in good fit with the factor analysis according to the results of the KMO measure and Barlett test. It was determined that the factor loads obtained varied between 0.333 and 0.900, and the construct validity of the scale was determined to be at a good level. For reliability analyses, the mean of correlation between items, ORION reliability estimates, and Cronbach's Alpha coefficients were calculated. Thus, it was determined that the inter-item correlation averages took values between 0.300 and 0.545, the ORION reliability estimates, and Cronbach's Alpha coefficients varied between 0.797 and 0.936. Thus, it has been determined that the developed NFNRS is a valid and reliable measurement tool to measure the level of nurses' fulfillment of forensic nursing duties, and the level of the nurses' fulfillment of their duties in the sub-dimensions in the study sample with descriptive statistics obtained from has been discussed comparatively.
