Burnout levels of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic period (Example of Trabzon Fatih State Hospital)

The burnout of nurses, who played a key role in the pandemic process, has increased significantly with the increasing workforce and changing working conditions. Reducing the negative effects of burnout is possible by knowing the burnout and taking the necessary precautions. This research was conducted to determine the burnout levels of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic period. Population of cross-sectional and descriptive study consisted of all nurses (286 people) in the hospital where the research was conducted between November-December 2021. No sampling method was chosen and it was planned to reach the entire population and 236 people who agreed to participate in the research were reached. The data of research; The questionnaire, consisting of sociodemographic characteristics, burnout levels, questions about COVID-19 pandemic, and "Maslach Burnout Scale", which was created by researchers by examining the literature, was applied under direct observation during the resting hours of individuals for about 20 minutes. Frequency, t test, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, ANOVA test were used in the statistical analysis of the data. Emotional burnout levels were found to be higher in nurses who stated they had a mental illness and found the physical conditions such as COVID-19 (+) sick caregiver, COVID equipment, number of personnel inadequate, compared to the others. In this study, it was found that the emotional exhaustion and personal failure mean scores of the nurses working at Trabzon Fatih State Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic period were moderate, and the depersonalization score averages were low.
