Abstract (EN)
This study is performed as a descriptive and sectional study to determine the knowledge of incontinance associated dermatitis (IAD) among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses. The study universe consisted of all nurses who work at Türkiye Yüksek İhtisas Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi (TYİEAH). Nurses who consented to participate in the study and work at the following five adult intensive care unit at TYİEAH formed our sample (n=126); Coronary ICU, Emergency Internal Medicine ICU, Gastroenterology ICU, Cardiovascular Surgery ICU and Gastrosurgery and Urology ICU. Data collecting was done by the questionnaire formed by the researcher based on the literature. The questionnaire consisted of propositions that examined nurses introductory features (14 propositions) and knowledge levels (59 propositions) and were filled out by the participants. Data collecting was done between 21/07/2016 - 15/09/2016. Koç University ethics committees approval (dated 01.06.2016 and numbered as 2016.131.IRB3.073 ) and TYIEAH Educational Planning and Coordination Commitee's research permission (346 numbered meetings decision dated 16.06.2016) were gathered before data collecting. Shapiro Wilk's, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis-H Tests, Post-Hoc Multiple Comparison Test ve Spearman's Correlation Coefficient was used to evaluate the data. Participant nurses were 46.83% licence graduate and mean age was 29.5(±6.77). Most correctly answered(94.44%) proposition was "pH of the skin acts in skins braier function.". The proposition most answered wrong or stated no knowledge (96.03%) was "Natural Moisturizer Factor found in the structure of corneocytes, helps skin to keep its oil levels.". Knowledge levels of prevention and treatment of IAD based on correct answered propositions was higher among post graduates (40.67±4.32) and lowest among health profession high school graduates (29.12±10.08). Differences between groups were statistically significant (p<0.05). Knowledge on IAD was not found to be at desired level. In-service training programs on the subject was suggested.
