The relationship between nurses' work motivation, work stress and artificial intelligence anxiety levels

Aim: This study aims to examine the relationship between nurses' job motivation, job stress, and artificial intelligence anxiety levels. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional and correlational study was conducted be-tween April and June 2023 with 300 nurses working at Sakarya University Training and Research Hospital. Data were collected using a Personal and Professional Information Form, the Nurse Job Motivation Scale, the Job Stress Scale, and the Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 software, with a significance level set at p<0.05. Parametric tests (Independent Samples t-Test, Mann-Whitney U Test, Kolmogo-rov-Smirnov Test, Kruskal-Wallis Variance Analysis), Pearson's Correlation, and Linear Regression analysis were employed. Results: Of the participating nurses, 63% were female, 51% were under 28 years old, and 50.67% had 1–60 months of professional experience. The mean scores were as follows: Nurse Job Motivation Scale (65.9±5.5), Job Stress Scale (58.0±6.9), and Artificial Intelli-gence Anxiety Scale (77.0±19.2). A negative, low-level, and statistically significant correla-tion was found between AI Anxiety Scale scores and Job Motivation Scale scores (r=-0.162; p<0.05). However, no statistically significant correlation was observed between AI Anxiety Scale scores and Job Stress Scale scores (p>0.05). Additionally, a positive, low-level, and statistically significant correlation was identified between Job Motivation Scale and Job Stress Scale scores (r=0.393; p<0.05). Conclusion: The findings indicate that nurses have high job motivation, job stress at level F (a level that threatens health and reduces productivity), and moderate levels of AI anxiety and its sub-dimensions. It is recommended that healthcare institutions support nurses in acquiring new skills by integrating them into current technological advancements.
