Abstract (EN)

This study is a descriptive study designed to evaluate the relationship between the attitudes of nurses working in adult inpatient clinics and adult intensive care units towards evidence-based nursing and their knowledge and practices to prevent phlebitis due to peripheral venous catheters. The research was carried out between 15.04.2021 and 15.06.2021 and the sample of the study consists of 182 nurses. Nurses who were willing to participate in the sample and approved the informed consent form were included. The data of the study were collected with Personal Information Form, Peripheral Intravenous Catheter (PIC) and Phlebitis Prevention Information and Practice information form, Evidence-Based Attitude towards Nursing Scale. In addition to descriptive statistics, Analysis of Variance, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed in the analysis of the data. In the study, the mean age of the nurses was 26.09 ± 5.81 and, 84.6% of the nurses were in the 21-30 age range. In the study, 90.1% of the nurses were female, 76.4% were single, 54.9% were undergraduate and 65,9% work between at least 1 year and at most 5 years. The mean scores of the nurses for PIC and phlebitis prevention were 8.07±1.91 and their knowledge level was not sufficient. It has been determined that the nurses who are between the ages of 31-54, those with a bachelor's degree or higher education level and those who have worked in the profession for more than 5 years have higher knowledge of PIC and phlebitis prevention. The mean scores of PIC and phlebitis prevention knowledge scores of the nurses who received training on phlebitis (8.28±1.92) were significantly higher than the mean scores of the nurses who did not receive education (6.92±1.43) (p<0.05). The mean scores of PIC and phlebitis prevention knowledge of the nurses who were aware of and followed the current guidelines were found to be significantly higher than those who were aware of but did not follow up and had no knowledge (p<0.05). In our study, the mean score of the nurses on the Nurses' Attitudes towards Evidence-Based Nursing Scale was 59.26±10.67. A weak positive correlation (r:0.163,p:0.030) was found between the Nurses' Knowledge Scores on Preventing PIC induced phlebitis and the attitude scale towards evidence based nursing. It has been determined that as the knowledge status of nurses increases, their attitudes towards evidence-based nursing may be better.
