Determination of the level of knowledge of the nurses on chemotherapy induced oral mucositis

TEZ KONUSU : Hemşirelerin Kemoterapiye Bağlı Gelişen OralMukozite lişkin Bilgilerinin SaptanmasıÖĞRENC N N ADI ve SOYADI : Gülbahar KÖROĞLUTEZ DANIŞMANININ ADI ve SOYADI: Yrd.Doç.Dr.Sevinç KUTLUTÜRKANANAB L M DALI : Hemşirelik ProgramıYILI : 2006STATÜSÜ : Yüksek Lisans TeziABSTRACTKöroğlu, G., Determination of the Level of Knowledge of the Nurses onChemotherapy Induced Oral Mucositis, Gazi University, Instıtute of Health Sciences,Nursing Program, Master Thesis, Ankara, 2006.This study has been carried out descriptively in order to determine thelevel of knowledge of the nurses on chemotherapy induced oral mucositis.Sample of the survey consisted of 148 nurses who accepted to participatein this research and who worked in medical oncology, hematology clinics and dailiytreatment units at state hospitals in Ankara.For data collection; a questionnaire prepared by the researcher and fordata analysis; Student T Test and Variance Analysis (Oneway ANOVA) were used.The results of the survey have shown that the school gratudated, the clinicworked, duration of the work in the same clinic, previous job experience on medicaloncology and hematology clinics and daily treatment units, education on oral mucositisthrough in job training, congress, seminars, symposiums and training the patients arestatistically significant on the score of the questionnaire.In line with the results of the study it was proposed that nurses of thepatients of the chemotherapy treatment should be permanently educated on oralmucositis and encouraged to participate in related congress, seminars, symposiums,further studies should cover a larger population through check-list, brochures andbooklets in order to use the knowledge in nursing care.Key Words: Oral Mucositis, Chemotherapy, Nursing, Cancer, Oral Care
