The effects of nurses personality traits and work-related stress levels on caregiver behaviors

The study was conducted to determine the effects of nurses' personality traits and work-related stress levels on their care behaviors. It is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. Between the dates of 1.11.2020-.01.05.2021, 252 nurses working in Yozgat Bozok University Research and Application Hospital in the city center of Yozgat voluntarily participated in the research. In the evaluation of the research data, descriptive statistics tests, number and percentage distributions, t-test, ANOVA analysis of variance, Tukey Post Hoc test, Pearson Correlation analysis and Linear Regression analysis were used by using SPSS 23.0 program. A value of p<0.05 was considered significant in the evaluation of the data. It was determined that the nurses participating in the study got an average of 35.96±6.29 points from the Work-Related Strain Inventory and an average of 5.30±0.75 points from the Care Behaviors Inventory-24. In the study, it was found that the positive change in the extra version and agreeableness personality structure of the nurses decreased the level of work-related strain; negative change in neuroticis personality structurein creases the level of work-related strain. In the study, it was determined that there was a negative and low-level significant relationship between the level of work-related tension and care giving behaviors of nurses, and that thein crease in the level of work-related strain of nurses negatively affected the care giving behaviors of nurses. According to our research findings, while the emotional instability feature in the personality structure of nurses increases the work-related stress level by 0.402 times, the agreeableness feature reduces the work-related stress level by 0.294 times. It was determined that the personality structure of the nurses significantly affected 25.2% of the level of care behaviors. In addition, it was determined that the increase in the work-related stress level of nurses significantly reduced their caregiving behavior by 0.317 times. As a result, it was determined in the study that the positive personality traits of nurses affected their positive care behaviors and thein crease in work-related stres levels changed their care behaviors negatively.
