Nurses perceptions of spiritual care and between spiritual care competencies examining the relationship

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between nurses' perceptions of spiritual care and their competences. Materials and Methods: The research data were carried out between December 2017 and March 2018, with necessary permissions were obtained from Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital, Manisa State Hospital, Manisa Merkez Efendi State Hospital. This study was conducted as a descriptive and correlational study. Thesample of research included 700 nurses. Spirituality Spiritual Care Rating Scale (SSCRS) used to determine nurses' spirituality and perceptionsof spirituality assessing care. Spiritual Care Competence Scale (SCCS) was used to evaluate the nurses spiritual care competence. Mean and standard deviation, percentage-frequency, Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U, Spearman Correlation tests and Multiple Regression analysis were used to evaluate the data. Results: The mean age of the nurses participating in the study was 31.29 ± 7.30 with a Min= 18 and Max= 59. 45. The total score of SSCRS was 58.00 ± 5.76 and the mean item score was 3.41 ±.33, while the overall total score of the SCCS was 91.52±.05 and the mean score of the PBSS was 3.51 ±.50. There was a significant relationship between the general SSCRS and SCCS (r = -0.264, p <0.01), and a significant relationship was found between all the sub-scales of the SCCS and SSCRS (p <0.001). Conclusion: As a result of the data obtained, it was determined that nurses had information and training needs related to spiritual care, their perceptions were at the desired level but their qualifications were not at the desired level.
