Study of nurses' lifelong learning situations and problem solving skills (Bartin province sample)

The objective of this study is to determine the level of problem solving skills and lifelong learning status of nurses and to reveal the correlation between these two variables. The relational screening model has been used in the study. The population of the study consists of all nurses working in health institutions in Bartın province (n=549). In the study, sampling method wasn't taken from the population and the study was completed with 309 people who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. "Personal Information Form" (gender, age, marital status, educational status, length of service, institution and position) developed by the researcher, "Lifelong Learning Scale" adapted to Turkish by Engin, Kör and Erbay (2017) and "Problem Solving Inventory" adapted to Turkish by Şahin, Şahin ve Heppner (1993) were used so as to gather data. IBM SPSS 22.00 program was used for data analysis. Descriptive statistics, T-Test out of arametric tests in data with two variables and ANOVA test in data with more than two variables were used so as to analyze data. Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine the correlation between the two scales. At the end of the study, it was found that the lifelong learning status of the nurses was at good level and the problem solving skills were middle. It was found that the lifelong learning status of the nurses showed a meaningful variation according to gender and the lifelong learning status of the female nurses was higher. A meaningful variation between lifelong learning status of the nurses wasn't identified according to the variables of marital status, age, education, length of service, institution and position. It was identified that there was a meaningful variation between the nurses' problem solving skills according to age, and the problem solving skills increased with age. There was a a meaningful variation between the problem solving skills of the nurses according to their length of service and it was found that the problem solving skills increased as their length of service increased. A pozitive moderate level of meaningful correlation was identified between nurses' lifelong learning status and problem solving skills. Keywords: Lifelong learning, Problem, Problem solving, Nursing
