Abstract (EN)

Aim: The research was conducted as a descriptive study to evaluate the intramuscular injection applications of nursing students. Materials and Methods : 114 senior students of İnönü University Malatya Higher School of Health Nursing department studying in spring 2013- 2014 have established the universe of research. No sampling method was used since all of the universe was intended to be taken for the research. The sample of the research was formed by 110 senior students of nursing department who accepted to participate in the research. The student identification form and the observation form developed by the researcher using the literature were used in the collection of the data. The survey was completed by the students between February and May 2014 and the observation form was collected by researcher. Forms were collected at the Family Health Centers where the students were residing within the scope of Public Health nursing course applications on Mondays and Tuesdays. Data were evaluated using percentage distribution, standart deviation, Fisher exact test, Chi square test, Mann Whitney U test and Independent T test. Findings: During the undergraduate educations of students, the injection application average was 26.10 17.32 and the injection application average alone was 10.4810.53. It was determined that one of every three students did not apply İM injection with the instructor who gave the lesson. All of the students preferred the dorsogluteal region during İM injection and more than half of them used deep breathing as a pain relief method. It was determined that the frequency of replacement of the injector tip before the operation was increased as the students' experience of İM injection with the insructor increased and as the number of application of İM injection increased, the students performed the correct region determination for more İM injection. Result: It has been found that all of the students in the study have applied İM injection to a part which is not highly preferred and they did not use pain relief methods in sufficient numbers and through the teaching staff and practice experience and training as the number of İM injections applied increased, the technical skills increased. Key Words: Nursing, Nursing Students, Intramuscular Injection, Pain Reduction Methods.
