Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted in two phases to determine the views of nurse managers and academicians on value-based management practices in nursing services and to develop the Value-Based Management in Nursing Scale. In the first phase, which was qualitative research design, the views of nurse managers and academicians on value-based management practices in nursing were determined. In the second phase, which was methodological research design, the Value-Based Management in Nursing Scale was developed and validated. The study population of the first phase of the study, which was qualitative in design, consisted of nurse managers working in Ministry of Health hospitals and private hospitals in Istanbul and academicians working in public, private, and foundation universities. Individual, in-depth interviews were conducted with a total of 20 people between February 2021 and May 2021. The study population of the second phase, which was methodologically designed, consisted of all nurses working in a total of six hospitals in Istanbul, including two Ministry of Health hospitals and four private hospitals (Ntotal = 4783). A total of 928 people participated in the study between May 2023 and September 2023. "Introductory Information Form (Phase 1)", "Semi-structured Interview Form", "Introductory Information Form (Phase 2)", "Scale for Assessing Nurses' Quality of Care," and "Draft Values-Based Management Scale in Nursing," which were validated and reliable, were used as data collection tools in the study. From the findings obtained from individual in-depth interviews with the participants, five main themes and three sub-themes, and a total of 36 codes were obtained as "the concept of value, value in health services, value-based management in health services, value-based management in nursing, and value-adding results of nursing services." The draft 42-item scale, which was developed based on the results of the semi-structured interviews and the literature, was reviewed by experts and content validity index was found to be 0.91. Factor analysis yielded a scale consisting of 38 items and three dimensions. In the confirmatory factor analysis of the scale, it was determined that the goodness of fit index values were at acceptable levels. According to the confirmatory factor analysis, the values for the goodness of fit (Chi-square/df: 3.20, CFI: 0.99, NNFI: 0.99, NFI: 0.98, SRMR: 0.068, RMSEA: 0.066) were within good fit and acceptable limits. Reliability analyses of the scale showed that it had high internal consistency, parallel form reliability, and stable measurements. In conclusion, this study contributes to the literature as it is the first study to examine value-based management in nursing. Furthermore, the results show that the developed Values-Based Management in Nursing Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool.
