Investigation of spiritual well-being and mindfulness levels in nurses

Abstract (EN)

This descriptive study was aimed to examine the spiritual well-being and mimdfulness levels of nurses working in adult clinical and intensive care units. The research was conducted with 583 nurses working in Ankara, Adana, Alanya, Konya, İzmir and Istanbul central hospitals of Başkent University Hospital. Research data; The information form was collected using the Spiritual Well-Being Scale and the Mindfılness Scale between 10/07/2020 and 11/11/2020. Nurses who volunteered to participate in the study were included in the study. In the study, the average age of the nurses was 26.35 ± 6.97, and 66.6% of the nurses were in the 18-25 age range. 85.6% of the nurses are female, 73.1% are single, 27.9% are married and 55.6% are undergraduate degrees. The average working time of nurses in the profession is 5.77 ± 6.33 and they work between at least 1 year and at most 33 years. 81.8% of the nurses did not receive training about spirituality and 90.1% about conscious awareness. In the study, the mean scores of the nurses who stated themselves spiritually and spiritually were high (107.83 ± 17.52). In the study, the mindfulness level of nurses is the average score (66.26 ± 12.90). As a result of the research, it has been observed that the levels of mindfulness and spiritual well-being are high in the 31-40 age group. The mean spiritual well-being score of the nurses who defined themselves as spiritual and mindfulness was found to be high. The spiritual well-being score averages of the nurses who are satisfied with working as nurses and who are satisfied with the unit they work in were found to be high. As the working time of the nurses in the profession increased, the mean scores of mindfulness and spiritual well-being increased. It has been observed that the mean scores of mindfulness of nurses who have practiced meditation and yoga before are high. The importance of mindfulness and spirituality training can be added to the results obtained in the study.
