Henri Bergson and Nurettin Topçu's philosophical thoughts and their approaches to intuition

The pursuit of absolute and genuine knowledge has always existed from the history of humanity to the present. In addition to those who state that the real knowledge can be reached with the mind in general, there are those who argue that the real knowledge can be approached with a metaphysical phenomenon. The understanding that adopts this irrational view is intuition and the thought of mysticism in the metaphysical sense that comes with it. While the word intuition is explained with the concepts of consciousness, inspiration, instinct; The word mysticism, on the other hand, is explained with concepts such as metaphysics and experience, as well as spiritual and religious phenomena. In this study, the philosophical thoughts of Henri Bergson and Nurettin Topçu, their views on intuition are discussed. The place of intuition in the philosophy literature and its function in reaching the real knowledge have been researched. In the metaphysical sense, the existence of intuition in reaching reality has been emphasized. Our study generally consists of three parts. In the first part, the life, ideas and perspective of the French philosopher Henri Bergson on the concept of intuition are emphasized. In the second part Nurettin Topçu, who moved to France for his studies and became the student of Bergson and even wrote his associate professorship thesis about Bergson, was mentioned, His ideas on intuition were conveyed in addition to his philosophical thinking style. In the third and last chapter, intuition, intuition-instinct relationship, intuition and metaphysics idea, mysticism and its historical process in the context of mystical experience are explained. In addition, the approaches of two thinkers about intuition are included. In the study, it was revealed that Bergson's intuition thought differs from other philosophers. According to him, intuition is not perceived by the five senses, but is in a metaphysical dimension. It consists of three stages. The first is the resources that concepts and science provide us. These resources provide us with the knowledge of the real outside world. The second stage is the internal process. Finally, it is effort. He stated that intuition will exist in every human being and that intuition is always in a lively and active process. He declared that the advanced dimensions of intuition became mystical. It has been seen that Bergson's approaches and refusals against positivists affected Nurettin Topçu's world of thought. His world of thought; The fact that the subject of intuition, which he expresses as inspiration, is not only in the form of introspection, but that the previous one is based on a solid ground. Topçu thinks that the knowledge of the creator and the created will be through intuition. In this respect, the final view of the two thinkers about intuition has a mystical aspect; It is with the idea of mystical intuition that a person will form a whole with God. As a result, in terms of thinkers, the feature of intuition in reaching the truth in religious and moral data is presented to us.
