Abstract (EN)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the concerto of Henri Tomasi's saxophone, which has an important place in saxophone literature, to emphasize the role of this instrument, which could not stand out in the field of classical music in our country, in modern music and to provide a kind of solution to Turkish resource shortage about saxophone repertoire to shed light on performers. In addition, on the basis of the information obtained as a result of literature review, it was tried to convey the composer's view of art to the musicians who wanted to interpret the works of Tomasi. This thesis, in which one of the leading works of saxophone repertoire is tried to be examined in detail, has gained importance in terms of being the first work in this field. In this study, the AL 20 705 "Alphonse Leduc & Cie Editions Musicales, 175, Rue St.-HonorG, PARIS note of the piano adaptation of the Alto Saxophone Concerto by Henri Tomasi was used. In the first part Henri Tomasi's life and in the second part the musical understanding of the composer is explained. In the last section, the Alto Saxophone Concerto which was composed by the composer as part of the competition was analyzed. As a result of this study, it is determined that the work, which is far from the classical concerto approach with its two-part structure, shows parallelism with the harmonic and melodic language of the era. Although modern technique and harmonic mobility are processed with a very rhythmic presentation, it is determined that the melodic structures used are preferred in a lyrical and touching theme. In addition, the presentation of this theme at the end of each period showed that the composer had an obsessive character. Keywords: Henri Tomasi, Saxophone, Concerto, Chromatism, Bitonality
