Comparison of the effects of isoinertial flywheel resistance training with different set models for Handball players

In this study, it was aimed to compare the effects of isoinertial leg curl training applied with different set methods during the season in elite female handball players. 17 female handball players voluntarily participated in the study. Participants were assigned to the control (CG), traditional set (TS), and rest redistribution (RR) groups. TS and RR performed a total of 16 sessions of isoinertial leg curl training for 8 weeks with equal resting volumes and number of repetitions and sets. All participants performed isokinetic knee joint strength test, 20 m sprint test, illinois agility test, countermovement jump (CMJ) and squat jump (SJ) tests as pre-test and post-test. In addition, isoinertial power outputs (W) of the isoinertial training group were compared to the power outputs in the 1st, 4th and 8th weeks. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) to evaluate differences between groups; T-Test (Paired T-test) was used in dependent groups for within-group differences, and repeated measures Analysis of Variance (Repeated measures ANOVA) was used to compare isoinertial power outputs. As a result of the analysis, no significant difference was found within or between groups in agility and sprint tests. While a significant difference was found in the RR group for the CMJ and SJ tests in the within-group analysis, a significant difference was found in favor of RR for the CMJ and SJ tests in the between-group analysis. In the isokinetic knee joint strength, a significant difference was found only in the 300°.s-1 dominant leg flexion in RR within-group comparison. In the isoinertial power comparison, a significant difference was found in favor of TS only in the dominant leg standing leg curl eccentric phase. As a result, it is thought that the duration of the study may be short and the volume of training intervention may be insufficient for these level athletes. However, it was concluded that RR method can be used in isoinertial training for the improvement of jumping performance. Keywords: İsoinertial, Handball, Strength, Power, Jumping.
