Examination of the relationship between arm strength, shoulder flexibility and shooting speed in handball players

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between arm strength, shoulder flexibility and shooting speed in handball players. 16 male handball players who are licensed to play handball at Gümüşhane Sports Club participated in the study. In the study, the height (m) anthropometric set (Holtain brand), body weight (kg), body fat percentage, body mass index inbody 270 professional body analyzer, shoulder joint internal (ir) and external (er) rotation movement flexibility test with the help of tape measure to determine shoulder flexibility, handheld radar device to determine shot speeds (Stalker Sport 2 Digital Sports Radar, TX, USA), DESMOTEC V12 Upper Extremity Isoinersial System device was used for concentric power and maximum eccentric power testing. In the analysis of the data, it was assumed that demographic information, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Shapiro-Wilk values showed normal distribution. Statistical significance level was taken as p<0.05. As a result of our study, as a result of the relationships between anthropometric characteristics and flexibility, a statistically significant difference was found between anthropometric characteristics and power parameters and between external flexibility and power parameters. Again, a statistically significant difference was found between 9-meter jump step shooting speed and external flexibility and between 9-meter jump step and power parameters. This information is used to prepare a season training program for adult male handball players, ensuring that flexibility and strength are not disrupted and are placed in the program in a way that is suitable for rest. In addition, the flexibility parameter is definitely introduced at a younger age, as it is important for handball players to perform.
