Abstract (EN)

OBJECTIVESUncontrolled bleeding is the major cause of death in trauma patients in prehospital setting and effective bleeding control after injury will reduce the mortality and morbidity. Bleeding control is an important problem in cases like war and disaster in which there are a lot of injuried patients with less medical equipment, and especially in patients who use drugs like heparine that may increase bleeding. In this study, we intended to find the effect of microporous polysaccharide hemosphere (MPH) on hemostasis time in heparinized rats.METHODIn our study, 10 wistar albino adult female rats were heparinized, then the femoral artery of each rat was pierced by a 22 gauge cathater to initiate bleeding. We placed standart scale weight on bleeding area in control group and standart scale weight and MPH in study group. We analyzed the difference between bleeding times in two groups.RESULTSApplication of MPH resulted in complete control of bleeding in 4 of 5 and 1 of 5 rats at 60 and 90 seconds, respectively. In the control group, however, hemostasis could not be achieved in all five rats, even at 90 seconds. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (p=.001).CONCLUSIONApplication of MPH and compression with a scale weight significantly decreased the time of hemostasis in a heparinized rat model with femoral arterial bleeding.
