Tenofovir resistance in patients after liver transplantation due to Hepatitis B virus

SUMMARY Backgrounds and Aims: In this study, HBV -induced liver cirrhosis in patients using tenofovir after liver transplantation were evaluated retrospectively to compare the rates of viral suppression. Materials and Methods: 189 HBV induced liver cirrhosis patients who received tenofovir after liver transplantation were included. ALT, AST, HBsAg, anti-HBsAg, INR and HBV DNA levels were examined. We compared these patients ALT, AST, HBSAg, anti-HBSAg, total and direct bilirubin, INR and HBV DNA levels before transplantation and after transplantation 1.-3.-6.-12. months. Results: We compared HBV DNA levels before transplantation and after transplantation 1.-3.-6.-12. months. After treatment of third month, HBV DNA levels decreased more than 1 log 10 at the all of patients. There were no patients with primary missed. At the 12. Month there were no patients with missed. In patients who received antiviral treatment before liver transplantation and after liver transplantation there was statistically significant difference between their rate of decline in their HBV DNA levels and there was no significant development of resistance. We compared these patients ALT, AST, total and direct bilirubin, INR levels before transplantation and after transplantation 1.-3.-6.-12. months and we established a statistically significant decrease ( p<0.05 ). We compared these patients HBsAg and AntiHBs levels before transplantation and after transplantation 1.-3.-6.-12. months. AntiHbs levels of all patients were negative before treatment. In the 12. month of treatment it was observed that 180(%95,4) patients developed anti-HBsAg seroconversion. Keywords: Chronic hepatitis B, liver transplantation, tenofovir, HBV DNA.
