Abstract (EN)
In our study, we aimed to examine Fakhr al-Din al-Râzî's view on Israiliyat within the framework of Surah al-Hijr. Surah al-Hijr, which addresses various topics, is analyzed by the renowned commentator and scholar Fakhr al-Din al-Râzî in the context of his tafsir works. In his commentary, Râzî delved into the concept of Israiliyat and highlighted its differences from other interpretations. The term Israiliyat refers to stories, events, legends—mostly derived from Jewish sources and, to a lesser extent, Christian sources—as well as information not found in the Quran and Sunnah but later introduced into Islamic discourse. In general, Israiliyyat is categorized into three types: those compatible with Islam, those contrary to Islam, and those that cannot be confirmed or denied. Surah al-Hijr includes references to Israiliyat through its mention of jinn, angels, the creation of Adam (as), the prostration of angels, and the arrogance of Iblis. Additionally, the references to the Prophet Ibrahim (as) and the Prophet Lût (as) provide a scope that is sufficient for limiting the study's focus.
