Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to study the impacts of active learning methods and traditional training of hydrographia ( geography of waters ) in Geography Lesson on academic performance of students. This research is implemented to 132 students totally - 69 students experiment group, 63 students control group- in a high school in Çankaya district in Ankara during Autumn term in 2007-2008 Academic Year.Pretest-final test experimental research model with a control group is used in this research. Active learning techniques in experiment group and traditional teaching methods in control group are implemented in this research. It is realized in a high school which has medium social-economic level. Subjects are chosen randomly among the students of volunteer teacher.Data of the research is collected by success test. While analyzing the data, arithmetic average, and standard deviation-test are used.As a result it is found that arithmetic average of success final-test points of experiment group trained by active learning techniques is higher than the arithmetic average of success final-test points of control group trained by teacher-centered traditional methods. Thereby, it is concluded that active learning approach is more efficient than teacher-centered traditional approach on success of students in geography lesson.Key Words: Active Learning, Traditional Training, Geography Teaching
