ABSTRACT Master Thesis A PHENOMENOGRAPHIC RESEARCH ON THE OPINIONS OF PRE-SERVICE SCIENCE TEACHERS' ABOUT PERCEPTIONS OF ISOMERISM IN HYDROCARBONS Burcu ÇETİN The University of Firat The Institute of Education Science The Department of Mathematichs and Science Education Division of Science Education Elazığ, 2019, Page: XIII+97 The aim of this study is to examine the learning approaches of the second grade students of science teaching about isomer of hydrocarbons in detail. In addition, in this study, it is aimed to reveal misconceptions about isomer of hydrocarbons. Phenomenographic research method was used in this study. The research group of the study consists of 10 students studying in science teaching program. Purposeful sampling method was used to determine the study group. Therefore, the aim of the study is to conduct interviews with students who have difficulty in learning or understanding while studying chemistry and have low marks in chemistry exams. Interviews consisting of two stages were conducted with 10 students whose General Grade IV (Organic Chemistry) visa grade was below 50 points. In the first phase of the interviews, prospective teachers were asked a series of questions about chemistry and some chemical concepts. In the second stage, the prospective teachers were asked 3 questions about the isomer of hydrocarbons in order to think and solve it in detail. Science teacher who participated in the research II. The audio recordings of the interviews with the class students, the documents in which the interviews were transcribed, and the texts written by the students during the interviews were analyzed. After all these analyzes, descriptive categories were created and the misconceptions revealed were presented in the form of a table. When the answers given by the students as a result of the evaluations are taken into consideration; It was revealed that they were prejudiced against the lesson, they considered chemistry as a difficult lesson, they could not relate to their daily lives and they did not want to work. Prospective science teachers think that they should learn chemistry because of their career expectations. The majority of the students were not able to deepen their learning about the isomer of hydrocarbons within the scope of the course and the superficial learning situation was realized. In addition, it was found out that students had different misconceptions about isomerism in hydrocarbons. Keywords: Hydrocarbon, Isomerism, Phenomenographic Research, Science Education
