Abstract (EN)

Interest in N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands triggered the isolation of a stable NHC in 1991 by Arduengo et al. Since then, NHCs, known as phosphine imitations in laboratory research, now form the very special class of ligands. After this development, palladium(II) catalysts (PEPPSI), which have been designed to be suitable for cross-coupling reactions and which contain a second ligand together with the NHC, are more recent, but as an alternative to advanced generation tertiary phosphines. The studies and results obtained within the scope of this thesis can be summarized under four headings: 1) In this study, 3-cyanobenzyl substituted (NHC)PdBr2(pyridine) complexes (2a-g) were synthesized from the reaction of 1-(3-cyanobenzyl)-3-arylbenzimidazolium salts and Pd(OAc)2 in pyridine. The structures of the synthesized complexes are illuminated by appropriate spectroscopic methods. 2) The 3-hydroxypropyl substituted benzimidazolium salts (4a-e) were synthesized from the reaction of 1-(3-hydroxypropyl)benzimidazole (3) with various alkyl halides. The structures of the synthesized salts are illuminated by appropriate spectroscopic methods. 3) The catalytic activities of the synthesized (NHC)PdBr2(pyridine) complexes (2ag) in the direct arylation reactions were investigated. 4) The inhibitory effects of the synthesized 3-hydroxypropylbenzimidazole (3) and 3-hydroxypropyl substituents benzimidazolium salts (4a-e) against Xanthine Oxidase (XO) enzymes were investigated.
