2. ABSTRACTThe Correlation Between Findings of Transcranial Doppler and The Level ofCerebrospinal Fluid?s NGF in Hydrocephalic InfantsOne of the most common congenital defect hydrocephalus pathophysiologyis a multifactorial illness that mostly become clear. Basically cure of the progressivehydrosefalus is surgery. Wheras to decide to operate or to follow up the patient withventriculomegaly is sometimes easy but sometimes is quite diffucult. Therefore, indiagnosing and in following (in spite of CT and MRI used in high frequency) TCD,which is noninvasive, cheap and easy used, is now used commonly day by day.NGF, which is a biochemical marker of intracranial pressure is a member ofa neutrophine family in polypeptide structure. Like in neuroimmunelogical, neurological and developmental faults, hypoxia, ischemia, injury, atrophy thatbecause of old age, even in hydrocephalus ilness, NGF is fixed in high levels inblood and in CSF. From now on although many studies have been done abouthydrocephalus and NGF. It has not done any about correlation between NGF levelof the CSF and TCD indexes in preoperative and postoperative periods. Every newstudy and experiment will be an important contrubution to overage of 100.000patients with hydrocephalus in the world every year.In our study there was 27 patients (16 girls,11 boys) who are between 0 and6 months old and who are with congenital hydrocephalus. In the 3rd and 30th daysof the postoperative and preoperative periods. CFS was taken from patients andTCD was taken. With Elisa NGF is searchead in the CSF. Pulsatility and resistiveindexes are evaluated with TCD. According to the pearson correlation analyse, nocorelation was found between NGF levels in CSF and TCD indexes. Statistically, increasing in NGF level in the 3rd day of postoperative period compared to thepreoperative period was meaningfull (P<0,05). Compared to the 3rd day of thepostoperative period decreasing of the NGF level in the 30th day of thepostoperative period was meaningfull (p<0.05) but it?s decreasing compared to thepreoperative period was not meaningfull (p>0.05). In the TCD evaluationdecreasing in PI and RI levels in preoperative period compared to PI and RI levelsin 3rd and 30 days of the postoperative period was meaningful (p<0.05) wherasdecreasing of result in the 30th day of the postoperative period compared to 3rd dayof the postoperative period wasn?t meaninfull (p>0.05).Key words: Hydrocephalus, NGF, Transcranial Doppler2
