Effects of story mapping on the level of reading comrehension

In this study, the effect of story mapping on reading comprehension wasexamined. Answers for the 17 sub-problems, which are related to this were alsoinvestigated. This study was organised as an experimental study. In the study, as thedesign model ?post-test? design was applied to 34 subjects; 17 of which areexperimental group and 17 of which are control group. The subjects of the studywere selected from the eight grade students of Doğancı Ayşe Yılmaz BecikoğluPrimary School and Dağkent-Kıroğlu Education and Health Foundation PrimarySchool in 2004-2005 Educational Year.In the experimental group, seven stories, chosen beforehand, were studied bymeans of story mapping method in a seven-week period. In the same process, thesame stories were studied by means of traditonal method in the control group. At theend of the experimental study, a test composed of 16 questions was applied to bothgroups in order to determine the effect of storymapping on the level of readingcomprehension. The data obtained were analyzed by means of t-test in SPSS in orderto find out whether there was a significant difference between the levels of readingcomprehension of experimental group and control group. As a result of the analysis,a significant difference in the advantage of experimental group was found; it wasdetermined that storymapping method is more effective than the traditional methodat the level of reading comprehension.Key Words: Story, story mapping, reading comprehension.
