Abstract (EN)

This study examines Hikâye-i Sâhir-i Hindî, one of the examples of the narrative tradition in Classical Turkish Literature. The main aim of the study is to determine the place of this work within the classical Turkish narrative tradition by analyzing the text both in terms of text publication and content analysis. In this context, in the first stage of the study, the printed copy of the work was transcribed into the Latin alphabet. In this way, it was aimed to make the work more accessible and easier to read and examine for contemporary researchers. At the same time, it was intended to introduce the text to modern readers and to provide a source text that could contribute to future academic studies. In the analysis section of the study, the work is evaluated in terms of plot structure, character roster, time and space elements, and narrative point of view. Within this framework, the structural characteristics of the story are revealed, and the elements involved in the construction of the narrative are systematically examined. The characters in the work are discussed in terms of both typological and individual characteristics, and the functions of real and extraordinary beings within the narrative are evaluated. In addition, by examining the temporal and spatial organization of the narrative, the arrangement of events within the flow of the story is explained. Through this analysis, it has been clarified how the narrative structure of the text is constructed and around which elements the events are shaped. The study also identifies and evaluates fairy-tale and legendary elements, extraordinary beings, and fantastic motifs such as jinn, fairies, giants, dragons, and magical objects, as well as religious motifs present in the text. In addition, proverbs, idioms, and archaic words used in the text are examined, and their effects on the narrative as well as their functions within the tradition of storytelling are discussed. Thus, it is demonstrated how the work employs traditional narrative elements and how these elements contribute to the structure and composition of the text. As a result of the analysis of language and style, it has been observed that the text displays a clear and fluent language reflecting the narrative understanding of its period. Moreover, the work has a close relationship with the oral narrative tradition, and its stylistic features bear the traces of this tradition. Consequently, Hikâye-i Sâhir-i Hindî is considered to be a text worthy of academic examination within the narrative tradition of Classical Turkish Literature in terms of its structural and thematic characteristics.
