Definitions of the Turkish upper-identity in Indian subcontinent: Mughals, Qarluqs, Turks

Generally the places inhabitated by the Turkish speaking Turkic communities are meant while describing the Turkic World. Apart from this understanding, there are Turkish communities whose mother tongues are the languages spoken in the countries or regions they live in. Despite retaining their Turkish identity a significant part of these Turkish communities has remained out of the scope of interest of the Turkish speaking Turkic world. The Turkish communities of this form have always been the focus of the countries they live in or the international researchers. The individuals, institutions or organizations interested in these communities have also made studies to identify these communities. Fighting for their existence these communities of the Turkic origin have remained confused between the social memory identifying them and identifications made by others without their consent and confusions have been created. The course of history and hostile attitude of the geographies they lived in has sometimes necessitated them to hide themselves. The Turkish communities facing such situations and hardships kept their social memory alive and transmitted their ancestral knowledge from one generation to another generation until today. Besides this information these communities have retained the tradition of writing their genealogical tree and other information related to their roots however this tradition generally does not exist in Anatolia. The communities of the Turkish origin with a weak knowledge of their family tree have remained under the influence of the others regarding their identification. As a result of the identification of the target communities of the Turkish origin and others living in India and Pakistan three different Turkish upper-identities have emerged. Some of the Turkish communities living in this geography call themselves "Turk" as their upper-identity while the other tribes under the Turkish upper-identity continue their existence with their Turkish surnames. Some of the Turkish communities who remained under the influence of the identifications of the others have adopted their upper-identity as Mughal and classify themselves as Mughal as their upper-identity beloging to the Mughal dynasty. Another upper-identity used is "Karluq".
