Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT THE EFFECTS OF NAVIGATION STRUCTURES BASED UPON LEARNING STYLES ON THE SUCCESS OF THE STUDENT IN HYPERMEDIA ENVIRONMENTS AĞCA, R. Kağan Master of Science, Computer Education and Instructional Technology Adviser: Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim YALIN. Ankara 2006, XIII+79 Sayfa This study was conducted with the purpose of determining the affect of different navigation structures based upon learning styles in hypermedia environments on academic achievement. In this study, Kolb Learning Style Modal was taken as the basic for the learning style. Direct Path Pattern and Related Child Pattern navigation structures were used during the process of designing hypermedia environments, 320 students from the Departments of Turkish Language Teaching, Social Sciences Education, Science Education and Primary Education of Abant Izzet Baysal University Faculty of Education participated in order to fulfill the experimental dimension of the study. The dominant learning styles of the students were determined by means of the learning style determination scale which was applied to the students.  As a result of the statistical analysis, it was found that the students of Department of Turkish Language Teaching was 132; of Department of Primary Education was 70; of Department of Science Education was 66; and of Department of Social Sciences Education was 52. Each subject whose learning styles were determined divided into groups and equal distribution was made for each learning style. 436 students whose learning styles were determined by means of Kolb Learning Styles Inventory were distributed equally and 8 groups of 40 students were formed. 2Âweek instruction was provided with the students by means of web sites which were prepared in different structures and appropriate for each learning style after the application of the pretest. Post test was applied at the end of the instruction. It was determined that the structure of the navigation effected the students? achievement. In general, individuals with Assimilators Learning Style were successful in linear structure, individuals with Accomodators Learning Style were successful in nonÂlinearstructure, individuals with Divergers Learning Style were successful in linear structure, and finally, individuals with Convergers Learning Style were successful in nonÂlinear structure.
