Determination of the effects of training given by the nurse to hypertensive patients on health lifestyle behaviors

Prof. Dr. Nimet OVAYOLUJune 2005, 116 pagesThis study was done to determine the health promotong lifestyle behaviors ofhypertensıve patients and the effects of educatıon on these behavıors.Individuals diagnosed as hypertensive were the universe of the study, and 60people chosen among the universe were the participants. Participants were in twogroups; 30 in experimental, 30 in control group. Participants in experimental groupwere trained on management of hypertension and suggested healthy lifestyle.Data were gathered through the Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile (HPLP).Percentage values, chi-square, Fisher exact chi-square, paired and non paired t-testsand Wilcoxon test were used to evalute the data.There is no difference between the experimental and control groups in termsof socio-demographic and hypertension variables, and HPLP scores in pre-trainingperiod.Two months after traınıng, significiant differences between two groups wereseen in regular drug use, effects of hypertension on private life, special diet.After traınıg, significant differences were determined in values of bloodpressure, pulse, obesity parameter in experimental group.HPLP total score, healthy responsibility, exercise, nutrition, interpersonalsupport and strees management of experimental group increased significantlycomparıng to the control group in the second meeting.As a result, training given to hypertensive patients is effective on healthpromotion lifestyle.Key words: Hypertension, education, healthy promotion lifestyle.
