Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out as a cross-sectional study in order to examine the relationship between drug compliance and fatalism tendency of hypertension patients. The research was conducted in the period of May-December 2018 in the family health center of Gaziantep Provincial Health Directorate. The research population consists of 495 people diagnosed with hypertension registered to the family health center. The sample consists of 222 individuals who were determined according to the sample calculation method. Simple-random sampling method was used in the sample selection from the population. The research data was collected in a polyclinic environment in the family health center by face to face interview technique. Descriptive Information Form, Adherence to Refills and Medications Scale (ARMS‐7) and Fatalism Tendency Scale (FTS) were utilized as data collection tools. It is detected that 42.8% of the participants were in the 55-64 age range and 57.7% of the individuals were male. The mean score of Adherence to Refills and Medications Scale (ARMS‐7) of the individuals was determined to be 14.38 ± 4.35; the scale's Refilling Medication sub-dimension mean score to be 7.94 ± 2.58, and scale's Taking Medication sub-dimension mean score to be 6.44 ± 1.99. The mean total score of Fatalism Tendency Scale was measured to be 80.07 ± 10.01; and the Scale's Pre-determinism Sub-dimension mean score to be 28.76 ± 5.12; Self-Control sub-dimension mean score to be 18.67 ± 3.25 and Superstition mean score to be 20.15 ± 4.58. It was determined that there was a statistically significant low positive correlation between the mean score of Adherence to Refills and Medications Scale (ARMS‐7) and Fatalism Tendency Scale (FTS) score (p <0.05). Consequently, while individuals' fatalism tendency increases, drug compliance and drug prescribing levels decrease. Key words: Hypertension, Fatalism, Medication Adherence, Nursing
