Radiographic Assessment of Changes in Jaw Bones Patients with Hyperthyroidism and Hypothyroidism The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the patients with hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism possible osteoporotic changes in their mandibles who applied to our faculty Oral Diagnosis and Radiology clinics and had a panoramic radiography for various reasons. For this purpose, panoramic radiographs of 29 hyperthyroidism, 60 hypothyroid and 55 healthy women between the ages of 18-60 were examined. Mental index (MI), panoramic mandibular index inferior (PMI-İ) mandibular cortical index (MKI) and fractal dimension analysis (FBA) were used. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to control for normal distribution. Chi-square test was used to compare categorical variables according to groups. Independent two sample t test was used to compare the quantitative data distributed normally according to paired groups. Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare data without normal distribution. The statistical significance was set at p<0,050 While the MI mean of the control group was 4.65, it was obtained 3.90 for the hyperthyroid group and 4.12 for the hypothyroid group. The average of the control group was 0.47, while 0.39 for the hyperthyroid group, and 0.41 for the hypothyroid group. The MKI of 81.8% of the control group, 53.3% of the hypothyroid group and 58.6% of the hyperthyroid group was found as C1. The MKI of 18.2% of the control group, 41.7% of the hypothyroid group and 31% of the hyperthyroid group was found as C2. While 5% of the hypothyroid group and 10.3% of the hyperthyroid group were C3 classification in the MKI, no C3 was observed in the control group. No difference was found in FBA measurements of patients with hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism compared to the control group. Indexes such as MI, PMI-I, MKI and FBA, which are easy to examine on panoramic radiography, can aid in early detection of conditions that cause reduced bone density such as hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. It is predicted that referring undiagnosed individuals to relevant disciplines through the possible findings obtained or continuing their treatment with additional data of patients with a diagnosis may prevent possible complications.
