Abstract (EN)

Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) is a type of dyslipidemia defined by elevated triglyceride (TG) levels, typically exceeding 150 mg/dL. It is an important medical condition to study as it is the primary cause of various complications, including atherosclerosis, insulin resistance (IR), metabolic syndrome and pancreatitis. This study aimed to quantify the levels of isthmin-1 (ISM1) protein in individuals with HTG and to evaluate its relationship with the biochemical parameters. The study involved 80 individuals who were divided into two groups: Control (n = 40) and HTG (n = 40). The HTG group was further divided into two subgroups: normocholesterolemic hypertriglyceridemia (HTNC=20) and hypercholesterolemic hypertriglyceridemia (HTHC=20). The levels of serum ISM1, apolipoprotein B 100 (Apo B100), and microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTTP) were determined using commercial sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. A colorimetric assay kit was utilized to assess non-esterified free fatty acid (NEFFA) levels in the samples. ISM1 levels in HTG group, HTNC, and HTHC subgroups were found to be higher than in the control group (p < 0.05). In addition, ISM1 showed positive correlations with most of the demographic and biochemical parameters including insulin resistance indices, (p < 0.05). It has been suggested that ISM1 may have a pivotal role in developing hypertriglyceridemia and insulin resistance.
