Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of hypodontia on the antero-posterior direction relationships of the jaws and to determine whether the hypodonty pattern affects any component of the facial form. This study included 111 individuals with one or more congenital tooth deficiencies who completed growth development. The patients with hypodontia were divided into 3 groups. Groups were formed according to the position of the tooth deficiency (anterior-posterior-anteroposterior), which jaw is seen (maxilla-mandibula-maxillomandibula) and the severity of tooth deficiency (1-2 teeth deficiency-3-5 teeth deficiency- 6+ teeth deficiency). In addition, 50 individuals with skeletal and dental class 1 molar relationships, without any missing teeth, who completed growth development, were used as control group. 23 measurements were performed on the lateral cephalometric films of the subjects. No significant difference was found in SNA, SNB and ANB angles between hypodontia groups and control group. Lower and upper incision angle decreased in subjects with tooth deficiency compared to control group. Interinsisal angle was increased in subjects with tooth deficiency compared to the control group. Congenital tooth deficiency does not cause a change in the position of the maxillary and mandibular basal bases relative to the anterior cranial base and each other. Not only the severity of tooth deficiency, but also the location is important. Patients with congenital tooth deficiency have different dental characteristics than normal and should be considered when planning treatment. Key words: Hypodontia, Congenital tooth deficiency, Craniofacial features
