Abstract (EN)

Homosocial places which we may call a result of a patriarchal structure take role in the patriarchal socialization of men and consequently preservation of patriarchal structure and the reproduction of it. That's why it is important to analyze homosocial places in order to understand the fundamentals of masculinity and reproduction of patriarchal structure. This study examines the roles of coffeehouses that are homosocial places on the construction of masculinity via coffeehouses in the city of Adıyaman where coffeehouse culture is common. The main purpose of this study is to decipher the roles of daily/ordinary/routine experiences and practices which take place in the homosocial environment of coffeehouse. In this extent in-depth interviews with 10 men who are habitue of four different coffeehouse, single, unemployed, educated and between the age of 22-25 has been made. In the interviews, it was tried to determine how men establish their own masculinity, how they fill their male identities and what the effects of being a coffeehouse habitue are on them. Based on the data generated from the interviews and observations of the field, we can say that the coffee house offers men a manly living space. On the one hand, coffeehouses reproduce the glorification of all states, actions, attitudes and behaviors associated with masculinity, and on the other hand, the humiliation of everything that relates to women.
