Honoré Daumier's social and political lithographies

The nineteenth century Europe was a scene of many changes in political, economic, cultural and artistic scene. The French Revolution (1989) strongly influenced this century and led to many changes inside and out, leaving behind a divided French people. Daumier created most of his works with the lithography technique, which was discovered by Alois Senefelder and became a popular medium among publishers and artists in Paris. Daumier was influenced indirectly or directly by a lot of censorship and law as well as receiving imprisonment within his time, and gave artistic responses to political events in his works. The artist continued his life by working in popular magazines such as Le Charivari and La Caricature of France and became a masterful satirist during his time. He observed France in all its parts, mainly political and social, and created his lithographs to reach the widest possible mass of people. Honoré Daumier created a visual encyclopedia of the nineteenth century, with works he produced in all these changes.
