Abstract (EN)

The Holy Quran has expressed in a flawless style the truths necessary to ensure the happiness of humanity in this world and the hereafter. In this process of expression, a unique narrative method has been adopted that has left a deep impact on the minds and hearts of the addressees. Among these methods, stories that present sections from the lives of communities that lived in the past have an important place. Many surahs in the Holy Quran make detailed references to the events that these communities went through. The Surah Hud draws attention with passages that describe the fates of nations that were destroyed. The universal nature of the divine word does not limit its message to a specific period; on the contrary, it has the characteristic of being a guide that addresses every stage of human history. Therefore, in addition to being a source of guidance for the first addressees, the stories of the Quran serve as a lesson, advice, reminder and warning for the people of the period when the revelation was revealed and for the following generations. In the tradition of interpretation, the interpretation of the stories and the inferences regarding the destroyed nations differ according to the methodological approaches of the commentators. In this context, Sayyid Qutb's Fi Zilali'l-Quran and Vehba Zuhayli's et-Tafsir al-Munir are two prominent sources in the analysis of the communities destroyed in the context of Surah Hud. In the study, the biographies, scientific knowledge, interpretation and methods of both commentators are first discussed. Then, the interpretations regarding the destroyed nations in both commentaries are examined comparatively; similarities, differences and points of emphasis are revealed. This analysis aims to contribute to understanding the historical context of the Quranic stories as well as how they convey messages to the contemporary world.
