Abstract (EN)
The mechanical behavior of high strength low alloy (HSLA) grade HY-80 steel has been investigated as a result of chemical reaction in aggressive corrosive environments. It is used in most strategic platforms of today's modern naval forces submarines, and in different fields of industry. The steel was exposed to sulfuric acid at a concentration of 5%, hydrochloric acid at a concentration of 10% and sodium hydroxide at a concentration of 20% in certain periods in the test pools, the changes on the surface of the material were examined, the mass losses as a result of the reaction were measured and the macro photographs of the surfaces were taken. All samples waiting in the test pools for 1 week, 2 weeks and 4 weeks are categorized separately for destructive tests. All HY-80 steel tensile specimens were subjected to mechanical tensile testing and the yield-tensile strength of the materials was measured. The fracture surfaces of the broken samples were visually inspected and photographed and compared according to their exposure time to the corrosive environment in the test pools. Likewise, all HY-80 steel notch impact specimens were broken in a hammer impact device according to the Charpy technique. As a result of the test, the breaking stresses of all samples were measured. The fracture surfaces of the broken samples were visually inspected and photographed and compared according to their exposure time to the corrosive environment in the test pools. By examining all the results, it has been observed to what extent HY-80 steel is affected by the corrosive environment and what kind of mechanical characteristics it will exhibit during its long term duty by creating an aggressive corrosion environment
