Muslim-Jewish relations in the time of Prophet Muhammad

This thesis investigates the relationship between Muslims and Jewish communities during the period of the Prophet Muhammad. Especially their relations in Madina. This research consists of introduction and four chapters. In the introduction, the importance and the research methodologies are emphasized. Moreover, the concepts of Jews, Hebrew, Israel, and Mosaic are exhibited in the introduction. In the first part, the origins of the Jews of Medina, the reasons for their arrival in the Arabian Peninsula, the existing of Jewish tribes and the two most important tribes of Medina, Evs and Hazrec are discussed. Then, before Islam, Arab-Jewish relations in Yesrib were emphasized. At the second chapter, after examining the prophet's invitation to the Jews in Islam, social relations such as neighborhood ties, visits, and marriage were explained. In the third chapter, firstly it is discussed the economy of Medina and the place of the Jews. The formation stages and basic principles of the economy of Medina is explained. Afterward the relations between Muslims and Jews in the context of commercial shopping goods and loans and other economic relations is focused. In the fourth chapter, the cultural relations between Muslims and Jews are examined. Reading, writing and poetry in particular in Medina; and the culturalvii structure in general. This chapter also includes intellectual debates on the subjects of doctrine, spiritual unseen, history, court, and other issues that occur between these two religions's believers.
