Turkish-Transcaucasia relations after the World War I (1918-1921)

After the October Revolution of 1917 , as a result of the declining Russian authority in Transcaucasia, the attempts of Azerbaijani Turks, Georgians and Armenians from three different nationalities in the region on the principle of self-determination of nations took place. The parties, which initially acted as a tripartite federation and later on as separate independent states, had bilateral relations with their neighbors, Turkey. The national republics of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, established after the tripartite federation in the region, thought about forming a democratic structure. The three republics, by participating in various conferences through the delegations they formed between 1918-1921, endeavored to be recognized de facto and de jure, that is, in reality and legally, by the foreign states. In the thesis, in general , by making use of the state archives of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia and the Archives of the League of Nations, after the First World War the diplomatic discussions and negotiations between the Transcaucasian republics between 1918-1921 with both Turkey and the Allied Powers are discussed. At the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, the correspondence of the Transcaucasian delegations between various authorities, archives, memoranda of the period, manuscripts and telegrams are taken as basis. Afterwards, in the period from the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly in Anatolia to the Sovietization of Transcaucasia, the three Transcaucasian republics, documents and sources on diplomatic negotiations and communications between the Government of Ankara and Soviet Russia are examined within the framework of the subject.
