Urban culture in Muqaddimah

In this study, Ibn Khaldun's understanding of social change has been examined within the framework of his work Muqaddimah. As change is a necessary fact for all beings, it is also inevitable for societies. For this reason, it is worth examining the understanding of social change, which is one of the main topics of sociology. Tracing the change is possible by building a bridge to the past and the future. If the experiences from the past are transferred to the future, it may be possible to be ready about the conditions, how and in which direction the change will take place. Therefore, it is important to analyze Ibn Khaldun's views on social change. The aim of the study is to reveal the factors that trigger social change in Ibn Khaldun. For this reason, the research was carried out as a literature study. In the study, first of all, opinions and definitions about the concept of social change are given. Afterwards, explanations were made about the life of Ibn Khaldun and the basic concepts he introduced. Then, the section where inferences about the understanding of social change in Ibn Khaldun, which is the main subject of the study, are made. In the study, Süleyman Uludağ (2017) translation of Ibn Haldun's Muqaddimah was used as the main source. KEYWORDS: Ibn Khaldun, Muqaddimah, Social Change.
