Abstract (EN)
In this study, Ibn Khaldun's views on morality and politics are evaluated in a continuity relationship with the tradition of practical philosophy that emerged in Islamic thought. The purpose of this evaluation is to read the science of umran in accordance with the notion of continuity in the history of science. In his work titled Mukaddime, Ibn Khaldun, as the founder of the science of umran, deals with the field of existence that was examined within the scope of practical philosophy before him. The subjects that practical philosophy examines under morality and politics are evaluated as phenomena that occur in social organization in the science of Umran. At this point, the first of the claims of the thesis is that Ibn Khaldun is a thinker in the peripatetic tradition in terms of his commitment to the method of burhan. But he re-established this tradition at two points. First, the method of burhan has been purged of second rationales, which are completely independent of the forms of the sensible world. Secondly, he drew the Peripatetic political theory, which established morality and politics from a speculative understanding of value based on metaphysical principles, to a realist ground depending on the factual research of umran. Thus, the second claim of the thesis is that Ibn Khaldun reconstructed his peripatetic understanding of philosophy on a realistic level while preserving its moral character. Accordingly, in the final stage of the thesis, a proposal is presented on how an Ibn Khaldunist moral policy could be based on the passages in Muqaddimah and Sifau's-Sail. Because the purpose of the science of umran is to convey the social organization only in a factual way, Ibn Khaldun himself did not make detailed explanations about such a policy. According to the proposal we have presented in the thesis, Ibn Khaldun thinks that real politics, which he has drawn with umran, can be put into a moral form through fiqh/sharia and mysticism. Therefore, the study also aims to reconstruct the moral-politics relationship with an Khaldunist perspective. Keywords: Practical Philosophy, Ibn Khaldun, Moral Politics, Umran, Peripatetic.
