Abstract (EN)

The subject of this study is the importance of Ibn Shihab el-Zuhri, one of the prominent scholars among the tābi'ūn, in hadith literature and transition of his narrations to informants (exclusively Musnad of Ahmad Ibn Hanbal). This research consists of two parts. In the first part, a short biography of al-Zuhri, the rumors about him, accusations on his behalf, his level of education in other sciences, his role in the collection of hadiths, his attitude towards isnad of hadith, his practice in teaching hadith, and his position in some other issues of hadith literature. The second part is on his narrations in Musnad of Ahmad Ibn Hanbal. In Musnad, there are 1820 hadith of him which are repeated and 750 which are not. In this study, all of al-Zuhri's narrations that are mentioned in Musnad are identified, his narrations from Companions and the tābi'ūn are dwelled upon, and his narrations are classified by addressing the students that came after him on five different layers. Therefore, it is aimed to reveal progress of hadith from our Prophet (pbuh) to al-Zuhri and from al-Zuhri to Ahmad ibn Hanbal.
