Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the opinions of İbrahim Aşkî, known as an educator and author in the Ottoman and Republic Periods, on the issue of children's literature and education. Primary sources comprised Aşkî's works while secondary sources consisted of studies conducted about him in the study. Aşkî's opinions on children's literature and education were presented as a result of the study. It was observed that his educational thoughts comprised both traditional and modern approaches. It was determined that Aşkî made his thoughts on literature concrete by virtue of the books he authored/wrote and these books were utilized as textbooks at various levels of education. Aşkî, authored his book named Çocukların Şiir Defteri (Children's Poetry Book) in the Second Constitutional Era when children's literature studies gained momentum thereby making an important contribution to the children's literature which was then in infancy period in our country. It can be said that he has aimed to bring children together with the aesthetic values of art and literature by writing this work. It is a fact that he has taken into consideration the reality of children and their cognitive, linguistic, moral and social characteristics while doing this. It was observed that the works authored through İbrahim Aşkî were not examined as a whole, as such, it was understood that all studied conducted/to be conducted without taking all of his works into account would be incomplete. Therefore, all of his original and translation works have been examined in our study. His entire works, all of which bearing a different value, have been tried to be examined through a holistic perspective.
