Investigation of structural damages in wastewater treatment plants in central anatolia region

The purpose of this thesis was to learn the foundation information, working procedures and investigation of structural damages, occurred during usage and environmental effects, in wastewater treatment plants in "Central Anatolia Region" such cities of Yozgat, Kırşehir, Nevşehir, Çorum. It is also aimed to determine the damages in reinforced concrete members, generally preferred in construction of wastewater treatment plants within service life, and to increase the performances of wastewater treatment plants depending on the results obtained from this research. Some investigations were made on wastewater treatment plants which are related to this study. It is also mentioned about some general information of wastewater treatment plants. On the other hand, the damages and deteriorations on reinforced concrete members of wastewater treatment plants were determined onsite. Each damage and deterioration was observed in detail and the reasons of such damages and deteriorations is also stated. Depending on the results obtained by investigations and observations made on wastewater treatment plants for this study, it is concluded that environmental effects and improper materials to be chosen in during building of plants were results of the major damages and deteriorations. It is also determined that damages are generally occurred on the contact points and faces of concrete walls with the wastewater, which concerns some chemical compositions such as salt, chlorine, acid, sulphate, and the weather conditions.
