An investigation on the role of women in the internal migration process: Ardahan, Göle district example

Today, unlike the old times, migration is increasing its impact and mobility day by day. The world has almost turned into a network of migrations and it continues to transform day by day. In addition to being an important part of social change, migration is a phenomenon that reproduces social realities. Although it has been evaluated on an economic basis, it is not possible to talk about a single type or basis of migration in the field of social sciences. Hope for a better life may be the decisive reason for migration. Migration is a phenomenon that can create multifaceted effects on society and the individual. In this study, the issue of internal migration is discussed in terms of gender and the perspective that takes women as the subject. In-depth interview technique was used within the scope of the study. The aim of this study is to examine why the decision to migrate to Göle, which has no industry or business connection as a sector, and whether the role of women was effective in this decision. In this respect, first of all, interview questions were prepared. Necessary data and answers were collected by asking the prepared questions to the participating women. The answers that were converted into text were analyzed within the scope of the MAXQDA 2020 program. As a result of the descriptive analysis, answers to the research questions were sought. The results are; One of the most important issues regarding women's migration experience is that there are women who want to migrate for their children and struggle to achieve this. The participants stated that the differences in the living standards of women after migrating to Göle are better education opportunities, more comfortable living opportunities, more comfortable social life opportunities, improvement in cleanliness, and more quality time with children.
