Abstract (EN)

Population growth in our country, the development of industry, making drinking and utility water more qualified and suitable for use are among the problems that need to be solved. Along with making drinking and utility water suitable for use, this should be achieved with both economical and environmentally friendly practices. Due to the high cost of ion exchangers and the necessity of regeneration, the use of new materials is important in water softening applications. For this reason, the use of zeolite material from natural resources available in our country for water softening applications gains importance in terms of both economic and environmental pollution. In the thesis study, the efficiency of using zeolite in water softening applications was investigated due to its low cost, ease of transportation, high pore structure and environmental friendliness. As a result of the results obtained within the scope of the thesis, it was seen that the reduction of the particle size applied to the raw zeolite and the activation process with NaOH increased the hardness removal efficiency from 35.29% to 93.82%. It was observed that the total hardness removal efficiency increased to 94.85% in parallel with the increase in the amount of zeolite applied to the system. As a result, the use of activated zeolite material for hardness removal in the treatment of drinking and domestic water will be an effective and economical method.
