Abstract (EN)
The cost of energy required for pumping is the most expensive part of operating a water distribution system. With regarding Time-of-Use (TOU) electricity tariff and urban water demand, the optimal scheduling problem of one pump station is formulated as a mathematic problem. A simplified dynamic programming algorithm (SDPA) is achieved to solve this problem. The SDPA applied to the water supply station in Sakarya in Turkey. In the investigated station the result shows that the SDPA can significantly shift a load of the peak time period to the off-peak time period, which results in reducing the energy cost by about 11% compared with conventional water level control given us the best optimization result that can be achieved when physical elements are not changed.
