Abstract (EN)

Objectives: Parkinson's Disease (İPD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's disease. Pathological changes in Parkinson's disease are loss of dopaminergic cells that are containing melanin in the pars compacta of substantia nigra. The etiology of the disease and the nature of the pathophysiologic events that led to the loss of cells is not yet fully understood. Not only motor symptoms but also nonmotor symptoms (NMS) cause disability in patients with PD, NMS are reported 88% of IPD. NMS play an important role in decreasing the patient‟s quality of life. Diagnosis and treatment of NMS are very important in patients for giving a modern healthcare. We aimed to investigate the role and effects of serum Uric asid (UA) levels between nonmotor symptoms (NMS) in Parkinson's disease. Thus, in patients with idiopathic Parkinson's IPD serum uric acid levels, we investigated the importance of the antioxidant and neuroprotective effects. Material and Methods: A total of 54 cases diagnosed IPD, 31 female and 33 male, participated in this study. The severity and grade of pd are assessed by "Hoehn-Yahr" scale and "UPDRS". Results are discussed according to current litterature. All controls and PD patients underwent a standardized neurological examination by movement disorder specialists, and the clinical diagnosis of PD was established according to the UK Parkinson's Disease Society Brain Bank criteria. Venous blood samples that taken from the patient and control groups were derived serum samples. Results: The serum levels of UA were no significantly difference between PD groups and in the normal control group (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in serum UA levels between males or females in PH group and in the normal control group (P > 0.05). Conclusion: UA, has received much attention as a biological indicator in the central nervous system disease studies. The treatment of serum UA levels may be a new therapeutic direction for PD. There is need resarches that will be done in more wider patient populations about how a relation is between UA and IPD.
