Abstract (EN)
İntroduction and aim: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is a syndrome characterized by increased intracranial pressure without known cause as a structural lesion as hydrocephalus, a space-occupying lesion, venous sinus thrombosis or meningeal inflammation and with normal cerebrospinal fluid composition. Idiopathic intracranial hypertension in association with prothrombotic conditions has been reported with increasing frequency in the medical literature. We aimed to investigate whether there is any relationship between PC, MPV and PDW with idiopathic intracranial hypertension as a risk factor and relation of this markers with CSF pressure. Method: Platelet indices of fourty one patients with a clinical diagnosis of idiopathic intracranial hypertension were compared with fourty one healthy control subjects whose age, sex and BMI matched. At the same time, the association between platelet indices and CSF pressure were evaluated in patients. Results: The mean platelet count in the patient group was significantly higher than control group. Mean MPV and PDW values of the patients were higher than control subjects, but not statistically significance. In the correlation analysis between CSF pressure and platelet indices, there were no statistically significant correlation. Conclusion: In our study; platelet indices (PC, MPV, PDW) are higher than the control group and this supports that there may be a possible prothrombotic tendency at ethiopathogenesis of idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Key Words: İdiopathic intracranial hypertension, MPV, PDW, CSF pressure
