Evaluation of our midterm follow up results pes equinovarus treated with ponseti method according to international pes equinovarus study group evaluation form (İCFSG)

Congenital pes equinovarus is the most common congenital malformation of the foot. Although successful results are achieved with conservative methods, recurrence rate is not low. The purpose of conservative or surgical treatment methods is; moving, painless, plantigrad foot without the need for footwear modification. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mid-term outcome of patients with idiopathic pes equinovarus after treatment with Ponseti method. 160 feet of 76 patients were evaluated retrospectively. 35 (29.7%) of the cases were girls and 83 (70.3%) were male (mean age: 6.09, standard deviation: 2.786, range: 1-13 years). The mean follow-up time was 6.09 years (standard deviation: 2.786). There were 76 patients with unilateral involvement and 42 patients had bilateral involvement and participated in a total of 160 foot in the study. According to the ICFSG evaluation form of patients who were followed up for at least 1 year, we obtained 70.3% excellent and 22.0% good mid-term results. Inadequate results were obtained in 2.5% of the cases and 5.1% had poor results. Excellent/good results were obtained with the Ponseti technique, which is a conservative treatment method, according to the mid-term results. Despite the bone and soft tissue surgeries we have performed in patients with recurrence, we can not achieve the desired results. The International Club Foot Study Group assessment form leads to the measurement of treatment success by establishing mid-term results of pes equinovarus.
