Abstract (EN)
Urinary tract infections (UTI) can be seen in both sexes and all age groups common infections worldwide. Escherichia coli is the most common microorganism causing hospital-acquired and community-acquired urinary tract infections. The resistance to antibiotics used in the treatment of infections caused by E. coli has increased in recent years in the world and in our country. Therefore, it has become an necessity to follow the locally changing resistance properties of various infectious agents in order to support rational use of antimicrobial drugs. In this study, Escherichia coli strains isolated from 1594 urine samples sent to Düzce University Heath Research and Application Center Medical Microbiology Laboratory between January 1, 2016 and December 31 2016 were identified by Vitek 2 automatized system and conventional methods and antibiotic susceptibilities were investigated. Imipenem, amikacin, nitrofurantoin, phosphomycin, ertapenem, cefoxitin, piperacillin/ tazobactam, gentamicin, tobramycin, cefepime, levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, cefotaxime, ceforoxime, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, amoxicillin/ clavulanic acid, piperacillin, ampicilline sensitivities were analyzed retrospectively and Vitek2 automatized system. Increased resistance to penicillins and floroquinolones has been observed. The sensitivity of penicillins to beta lactamase inhibitors was still high. Nitrofurantoin, phosphomycin, aminoglycosides and carbapenems are the most susceptible antibiotics. Key Words: Escherichia coli, antibiotic susceptibility, urinary tract infection, antibiotic resistance, uropathogen Escherichia coli
